The training allows the student to be trained for autonomous scientific production through participation in advanced theoretical-methodological and thematic seminars, particularly in the formulation and development of a Project. They are part of PPGSA Research Lines, aiming at the preparation for the doctoral thesis under the tutorial regime.

ACADEMIC DEGREES The Graduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology aims to train high-level professors and researchers, offering Doctors in Human Sciences (Sociology) and Doctors in Human Sciences (Cultural Anthropology) degrees. In the Doctorate program, at the time of enrollment in the course, the student must choose to have a degree in Sociology or Anthropology. The following are: (a) Students can consult the requirements for distributing PPGSA scholarships at the following link. (b) The nomination for FAPERJ's Grade 10 Scholarship is made during the second year of the course and complies with the requirements established by Faperj's notice. (The student who does not have a 2.0 average or who fails in any subject will automatically lose the scholarship. The calculation of the performance coefficient is as follows: A=3, B=2, C=1, D=0) d) The scholarships awarded require students to renew their commitment to dedicate full time to the course annually. The student must prove a Paid employment relationship under Article 1 of the CAPES/CNPq Joint Ordinance, No. 1, 07/15/2010. e) The student cannot accumulate scholarships. f) The scholarships from both CAPES and CNPq will follow the duration of the course, namely, 48 (forty-eight) months for the Doctorate, even if the scholarship is granted after the beginning of the course.

EXAMINATION BOARDS and THESIS DEFENSE Students must submit to the qualification and thesis defense committees according to the compositions and deadlines below.

(b) Thesis defense: board composed of 5 PhD professors (one supervising professor and at least two professors external to the PPGSA), and two more options (one PPGSA professor and the other external) at the end of the eighth semester of the course.
