He conducts research at the intersection of political sociology, sociology of violence, and historical sociology, with a particular interest in the origins, historical development, and contemporary manifestations of state violence in Brazil. He holds a degree in History (PUC-Rio), a Master's in Social History of Culture (PUC-Rio), and a PhD in Sociology (IESP/UERJ). He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Memory and Truth Commission of UFRJ and at the Graduate Program in Sociology at IESP/UERJ. He has also been a researcher at ISER and at the Rio de Janeiro State Truth Commission. He is the author of Dançando na mira da ditadura: bailes soul e violência contra a população negra nos anos 1970 (Arquivo Nacional, 2022) and A transição inacabada: violência de Estado e Direitos Humanos na redemocratização (Companhia das Letras, 2024), co-author of A serviço da repressão: Grupo Folha e violações de direitos na ditadura (Mórula Editorial, 2024), and co-editor of Memória, movimentos sociais e direitos humanos (Editora da UFRJ, 2024). He is a researcher at the Center for the Study of Citizenship, Conflict and Urban Violence (NECVU/IFCS/UFRJ), the Study Group on Defense and International Security (GEDES), and the Center for Memory and Human Rights (NDH/UFRJ).
