He is professor in the Department of Cultural Anthropology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a collaborating professor in the Graduate Program on Anthropology at Unicamp. He holds a degree in social sciences, a master's degree, and a doctorate in social anthropology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He was a visiting researcher at Ciesas/Guadalajara (Mexico) and the University of Utrecht (Netherlands).
