He is a sociologist who graduated in Social Sciences from IFCS-UFRJ (1974) with a master's degree (Iuperj, 1987) and a doctorate in sociology (Iuperj, 1999). With a Marxist background, he delved into the rich divergence between the classic works of Max Weber and Karl Marx. From an early age, he began to research the themes of crime and violence which he specialized in. With about 50 years of dedication to teaching, he retired in 2019 but continues to work as a collaborator. He was a Visiting Researcher Emeritus at UFF.
