Professor in the Department of Sociology at UFRJ, he has a master's degree from the School of Communication (ECO) at UFRJ and a degree in Journalism from the same university. He is a member (and current coordinator) of the Center for the Study of Citizenship, Conflict, and Urban Violence (Necvu) at UFRJ. He investigates the foundations of the sociology of morals and studies critical/accusatory discourses, the moral dimension of conflicts and urban violence, and pragmatist sociological theory. In 2008, he created, with Michel Misse, Dilemas: Journal of Social Conflict Studies and edited the blog Dilemas: Reflections.
