Retired full professor in the Department of Sociology at UFRJ, holding his link with PPGSA. He did his doctorate and master's degree in social sciences (political science) at the University of São Paulo (USP) and postdoctoral studies at the University of London (UK) and the University of Manchester (UK). He was president of Anpocs (2014-2016) and is a member of the Board of RC-30 (Sociology of Work) of the International Sociological Association (ISA) and of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Association of Labor Studies (Abet).
