Henricus Petrus Johannes Maria (Harry) Kunneman is probably the best-known philosopher of the University of Humanistic Studies (UvH). He was there when the university was founded, was one of the first rectors and he was also the Habermas expert par excellence at the time when the German philosopher reached the peak of his career. His commitment to normative professionalization not only of humanist council work, but of all organizations where people work together on values, brought his ideas from the university to civil society. Even now, years later, when you talk about the UvH, the name Kunneman quickly comes to mind, just as if the two are inextricably linked. I have always associated Harry with the slogan: 'The most beautiful study is the human being'. It is therefore with pleasure and with a touch of nostalgia that I look back on one hundred years of Kunneman here in this anniversary issue of Waardenwerk.
